Hello all,

One of my engines is a thousand miles away, so forgive me for asking a question I could answer myself.

I'm considering swapping the primary drive gears from a '88 savage bottom end into a 2003 but I didn't know if the bosses in the crank case for the final drive were the same size or if that was one of the things that changed when the transmission and starter gears were upgraded ?

Anyone got their engine cracked open and a micrometer or caliper handy?

I know the gear ratios changed from 36:68 to 37:67 so it would sure be nice to stuff a pair of those early gears into one of the newer 5-speed trannies with a nice tall tire.

One way to check is to go to one of the on-line parts microfiche and check out case half parts numbers on the different years.......

My bet is that they are the same parts.....
