Why don't you just get another switch and fix the problem, instead of bypassing a safety?

In installing forward controls, I had no choice in the matter of the side stand switch. There are instructs ( I think) on disabling it in the tech section; but what I did was to reroute the apparatus back to the part of the frame reserved for the Cali canister. I then wrapped zip ties around it to hold the plunger in, and then wrapped the whole mess in duct tape, and secured it to the part of the bike where the canister would sit with more zip ties. The reason I did this instead of snipping the wires was in case the forward controls didn't work out, or I ever wanted to return the bike to stock. I fully intended to go back and make the change permanent; but 5,000 miles plus later, I've frankly forgotten about the thing, and have never bothered to make the disabling permanent.

On a '06, it's probably not the switch.  More likely a wire issue.  Unless you have a "flood" bike. Or if you're missing one of the springs.

But,  the way the switch works:

.... sidestand up, switch makes contact (closes), allows bike to run when not in neutral.

.... sidestand down, switch opens the contacts.  Bike will only run in neutral.

Now....  get you high school science book out and read the chapter on electricity....

Also, when I installedmy Ed L.'s    I added lenght to the SS switch wire.

I too added a little wire to keep the switch in place.  I figure I make enough dumb mistakes without asking for one.

Always solder the wires.  Twisting the wires together will later be the headache you don't want.   Use heat-shrink tubing too.  Do it right,  you'll be happier in the long run.

The switch is held in place by two screws (or was it three.....  :-?).  Crawl under and look .  I seem to remember that  it is a funny angle and you might be able to get it out but .... maybe not.

Short out the connector under the seat to do a diagnosictic run.  Make use you tape up waht ever you use to short it out.   Don't want it falling out or touchingsome piece of metal.

TMack beat me to the punch.  That is what I did, solder and heat shrink tubes.  I was adding Ed L's forward controls, I did not remove the switch, just cut the wires.
