Title: tm40 pumper install
Post by dr1445 on 04/30/09 at 16:58:31

greetings forum,
we got the throttle cable made by motion pro. the carb fit up well with head side rubber boot i had in stock. the air filter step ring was left over from the suzuki dr650 project. the step ring is from procyle, they sell tm40 plug and play kits for the dr650. their kit minus the dr cables sould fit the ls650, be advised that procyle has no direct experience fitting the tm40 to the ls650. here the initial jetting set up.
main jet 147.5
pilot jet 17.5 [might go to 15]
accelerator pump nozzle #40
needle #2 from top
the savage is running great with this setup on a stock air box and muffler, its like having an instant on button. there maybe no real increase in hp but the throttle response is amazing.

extended filter side step ring.

I've ridden an FCR kitted DRZ and if I was looking for a better carb for a Savage I wouldn't install anything else than one with an accelerator pump.

dr1445, way to go with the pumper carb.
I have a Keihin FCR41 on my KLX650C1.

in the next few days i will send the ls650, carb to head, rubber boot out to procycle [www.procycle.us] to verify his intake side step ring for the tm40 fits.
if that is the case then the job becomes a plug in operation and a jetting
database can be developed. you can see the tm 40 kit for the dr650 at procycle.us. it is important to note procycle has the #40 nozzle jet which is very hard to find. with some smaller pilot jets the dr kit should work.
i have talked with the folks at motionpro about the cable. while the first cable
was workable it could use a 15 to 30 degree angle where the cable joins the
carb to eliminate any possible binding. it is rain today so we will not be woking on fine tuning the jetting today.
