Title: Ordered new head cap, same as the old head cap.
Post by Rogue_Cheddar on 04/28/09 at 10:09:52

I ordered gaskets from Bike Bandit which just came in, for my '95. I had also order a new head cap (you know that POS that always leaks) but I used the part number from a 2008. The head cap looks exactly like the one I'm replacing. I thought you guys had said that Suzuki had inproved on it. That it was a more solid piece without the cavity in the top. I'm perplexed. I'll still use this one instead of reordering but I was hoping for a better part. What's up with this?  :-/

I think I have new one in the package still I'll go look - they still have a little cup in the top just not near as much - the old style was just rubber coated - the new style was filled up about 2/3rds and rubber coated best I recall.

I ordered one from my dealer a few months ago and just installed it the other week in the top end of my 98 Savage.  It is from a newer S40 and it's def. a solid rubber plug.  It replaced a hollow rubber plug that wasn't even stuck in the hold, a 2 year old coulda pulled it out.  And the original had ZERO sealant on it.  I put sealant on the new one and it's definately not leaking anytime soon.

On this 01 I have, it has plenty of sealant. The solid plug I actually think had a slightly different shape of the hole in the head. not sure though, but on my 87 the plug kept jumping out of the hole unless the head cover was pressing it down.
Cool.

Yea, the solid plug I put in my 98 head seemed a tad too big for the hole over the head bolt.  Nothing a rag, some silicone sealant and 5 lb. BFH cant easily fix tho  ;)

This is a common point of confusion.

Here is the P/N of the new style plug:

If that's the new plug, then my bought new 06 came with the old plug.
