Title: Longer brake line ? HELP
Post by Bruno666 on 04/27/09 at 04:40:29

Hi.
Just got my 10" mini apes and tried to put it on. But discovered that the front brake line was to short  :( and the clutch cable is also VERY tight. Does anyone know another bike that use a bit longer break line (about 120 cm would be great) and perhaps a bike that use a little longer clutchcable as well  :-/

Quote:
you do need a custom designed throttle cable and Barnett is the only source I am aware of that has the info needed to make exactly what you need.  I did the research & leg work necessary to make this available for our members.  You cannot buy the cable direct...must go through an authorized dealer, and if that dealer does not have the specific tech info required then you will not get the correct cable.

This is from another thread that Lancer was responding to. Drop him a pm I'm sure he can help you out.

Why not switch to a stainless steel brake line?

Is your bike a Savage or S40? It's my understanding that the Savage cables should work with the 10" mini apes. You can re-route the cables to get a little bit extra length if needed.

This is one of my upcoming projects too! :)

You need cables brake lines and wires (I think) from the same bike as the handlebars. The 86-88 4 inch riser savage I bought recently has these tiny tiny cables ... wont even take a 6 inch riser ... and the S40 is the same way ... barely enough cables and lines to get by.
Cool.

My bike is an ´86 Savage. I used to have the stock buckhorns and a set of 4" risers. The cables and brake line work fine with this, but I did not like the look so I got the 10" apes. I just bought Hel stainless brake line this winter, but its to short for this  :-/

That's weird.  I got the Ebay Bikerhaven 10" mini apes and all my stock lines and cables fit fine with about 1/2" to spare.  I had the stock buckhorns on my 98 FWIW.

yes that is a bit weird... but perhaps mine is wider
h: 10,3"   w: 34,25 "
Anyway, just ordered a 6" longer brake line and is working on a longer clutch cable.

there's a guy in canada who'll make them to order

any length (up to a point) any ends

posted a link here somewhere.

Clutch cable for a Honda CB550 is a direct swap and about an inch longer. Though when I put my 10 inch mini apes on my 2000 Savage, I had the stock buckhorns and no problems with the cable lengths.
