Title: Raptor Petcock and Reserve
Post by prechermike on 04/20/09 at 05:44:34

I did the raptor conversion some time ago.  I try to get gas every 100 miles (like someone else suggested) and that works great.  I did wonder just how much reserve I had now and had not seen the answer anywhere.  Well, now I know!

I hit reserve and then rode about seven miles to the gas station.  It took 2.565 gallons to fill the tank.  On a 2.8 gallon tank that means I have not quite .3 gallons of gas left.  If I get 50 miles to the gallon, that is not quite 15 miles, but I would take the first gas I could get.  Is my math right, it doesn't sound right to me the more that I think about it.

That sounds right to me.  I have my tank currently off my bike and I also have a brand new raptor petcock to compare next to the stock one.  The raptor reserve is def. less than the stock one.  I'm also coating the inside of my tank to fix a small rust issue.  I also noticed when I have the tank positioned in the way it's mounted on the bike, there is still a small amount of liquid that sits in the bottom of the tank that never makes it over to the petcock?  This may make that small amount of gas in the bottom of the tank unsuable, maybe a .2 or .3 of a gallon?

My reserve with the raptor petcock is still about the stock level. About 2.3 from reserve to full

My best calculation with the Raptor petcock is about 12 miles, so 15 is not too far off; depending on conditions, wieght, etc. When I hit reserve, I know I've got to get the very next available gas.
