Title: rear brake light wiring (98)
Post by matt_savage on 04/19/09 at 16:17:23

On a 1998 Savage, can anyone confirm the 3 wires going to the rear brake light?  From my best guessing by looking at the Clymer manual, I've got:

brown wire = postive
black w/ white stripe = negative
white w/ black stripe = ground

I'm changing my brake light to a standard 2 wire light mounted on a side mount and would like to take the guessing out of hooking up wires and testing.  TIA

This is how I've got mine wired

brown wire = postive
black w/ white stripe = ground optional
white w/ black stripe = negative

ok, after looking at it more, looks like I did trace them wrong.  I'll experiment with the black w/ white stripe wire and white w/ black stripe wire as negative and ground.  For sure the brown is positve.  Thanks V

Black with white trace is ground.
NOTE: that's pretty much standard throughout the bike.

Brown is running lights, but they are always on , so yes, positive.

White with black trace is brake light (switched).

Cool, thanks for verifying 2x T Mack.  I'll get on it hopefully tonight after the rain stops!
