Title: Sissy bars!!
Post by 4carbcorvair on 04/16/09 at 09:39:31

Are there any other sissy bars that will fit the S40 without major modifications?

My son wants a ride on the bike and my wife insists on a sissy bar. If anyone has one, please let me know. :)

check in the for sale section, also there is one that was factory made. You'd need new rails on the fender because they slide into them.

I'm not a big fan of the rails. They are quite bulky. I've been thinkin of ways to install the sissy bar sans rails. does anyone have any ideas or experiences?

EBay has an OEM set for around $150... Comes with new bars and the sissybar.

Or you can find someone selling theirs off of the Savage (earlier versions). The only big difference is the padding cover on the sissybar itself.

Check in the  The Marketplace. I traded my non-sissybar rails for rails with sissybar with another member here. Worked out great, and only out the shipping costs.

This is a new idea to me so not much thought has gone into  it but I was out lookin' at the bike and sissy; The sissy bar would fit right over the fender and it has two bolt holes on each side that could be marked and drilled out on the fender. I haven't tried to pre-fit or anything but wonder if that type of install would be sturdy enough for the pressure on the backrest; or if it would bend the fender. I don't think the look would be that bad it it was possible. A few nice bolts on the outside and there ya go?

I'm definately agreeing with your wife on that one. That back seat isn't very big and one good bump… better safe than sorry.

There's no way the fender would be strong enough to support any amount of weight that would be put on it, if it were drilled directly into the fender.

The sissybar rails have a support "beam" (or slot I guess rather) in them that holds the rail in place.

Since you presumably have an S40 without the sissy bar, I'm assuming that means your rails are free of any supports for the sissy bar as well.

Interestingly enough, I've got a 99 Savage that has a sissy bar and the appropriate rails...but I don't like either.  Are you looking for a permanent modification or just a temporary fix to take Junior for a spin??
