Title: Horn Relay?
Post by drharveys on 04/15/09 at 21:16:14

Does the Savage have a horn relay, or does the hot lead go through the switch?

I'm thinking of upgrading to a louder horn and want to know if I'll have to wire in a relay.

Thanks!

I removed the OEM horn and installed this $10 Advance Auto Parts horn right in it's place. I used the same wires.

Been thinking about doing that very same thing. No probs with that upgrade? I've used similar horns in the past. One was marketed as the "Freeway Blaster". Certainly louder than OEM, and for less than $20, a cheap upgrade in my book. Never had problems on other bikes. Would the electrical on the Savage be able to take it?

I've rewired and relayed previous bikes' headlight and heated grips and do the same to my current bike soon as well. Check how much voltage you lose between battery and horn - on my ex bike I lost only 0.11 volts after the rewire.

I put a "Bad Boy" air horn on mine.  I relayed it.  Twas a very easy job.  I ran a fused hot off the battery to the relay's hot to the air horn and used the circuit from the savage horn to trigger the relay.
