Post by MrThud on 04/11/09 at 06:48:32 This is my current speedo reading on Mr Thud (my 1986 LS650)...Get a load of this... http://i691.photobucket.com/albums/vv280/MrThud/LS650_Mileage.jpg Apparently, it had a cam chain replacement just over 1 year ago. I have bought a gasket and will investigate the dreaded cam adjuster status tomorrow. Sounds...'ok'.. but then I have several CB750 hondas..and may have got used to rattly cam chains.. Hey wonder if it has been round the clock before! Im the 4 owner..I think. BTW..those are Australian Kilometers.. not quite as big as American ones ;) ha ha ha.. Seeya! 'G' |

Have you replaced the camchain?...[/quote] Nope. I have a Verslavy that went to the 2nd hole at about 12,000 (guessing.. the records are here somewhere). I haven't opened it up since then. I have the nitrided cam chain (from the 1st buy) and a set of gaskets. But, it hasn't made noise beyond what I think is normal, and it runs great. It's a fair guess that the tensioner is at it's limit and it's just a matter of time before it gets noisy and I'll have to go in. Until then.. I RIDE. |

Been working on it too much lately and not riding it enough. Now the mods are done, that'll change. However, the Shadow just rolled over 50K. Bought it last summer with 45K on it. I really haven't had time to ride as much as I've wanted to, work's been busy. All that mileage has been mostly to work and back, with a 50-100 miler fun ride every other week or so. I've planned 3 out of state trips for this summer though, Oregon, Nevada, Arizona. Hoping to ride 5K this summer alone. |

I am not sure why people get bikes and then don't ride them. A friend bought a shadow (I think) right before I did. I rode mine every week since I have had it, except 1 when we were out of town. He told me he only rode his a couple of times, more to keep the battery charged than anything else. I bought my bike to ride, for transportation, to get from here to there much chepaer than I can drive my F150 4x4 and because it was fun. I changed the oil soon after I got it, had the petcock leak and just wanted to make sure no gas in the oil. So it is about time for a change. I ordered the filter and plug head cap from BikeBandit today. |

I bought it with the cam chain sawing through the case and rebuilt into a chopper and ... yet to finish. Cool. Srinath. |
