While it's too expensive for me/my budget I really like how a small company has developed and brought this product to market.  :)

Don't care alot for the dirt bike look, unless you're gonna clear triples and do tabletops on this thing.

I stay with the Savage until they make it look better and increase the range. Would be okay for commuting I guess.

Shhhh, it's a super-moto, you get the advantages of a motocross bike for the city (i.e. great for commuters, not so great for long distance biking). Nice light weight and very nice power-to-weight ratio   ;)

It's ripe for a couple of mod's... lower the rear, rake the front or put on a springer.  probably something you can do with that seat.

Top Speed: 60 mph (96.6 kph) - Savage goes faster

Range: Up to 60 miles (97 km) - Savage goes farther on a tank.  (Finally somthing that goes less distance on a "tank" than a Savage.  ;D )

Recharge time: Less than 4 hours (can take 110V or 220V) - Savage "recharge" time = 4 minutes

MSRP $9950.00  - Cost of my (used) Savage with all the mods: $2100.  I have 2 bikes and still cost me 1/2 that price.  Of course, I only buy used.

Nice toy.  Not practical for me.

A used Savage for $2,000.00 leaves $8,000.00 for gas before the retail - tax is met. Its not practical.
Theres a new approximately $40,000.00 41 MPG car out. Whoopee!
Get a used Matrix/Vibe for $11,000.00 & have $29,000.00 worth of fuel savings to burn before break even. Not practical. Its a "Feel Good" solution.

I laugh about the new cars bragging about 35 mpg.  Heck, my '01 Saturn does that driving back and forth to work, and I've managed 45 mpg all freeway driving, on vacation! :o  Plus, it's paid for! :D
The bike needs longer range, and higher top speed.  I do like the short recharge time though.

Holy hell!  Four hours of charging for 60 miles?  IMO, that's nowhere close to usable unless you're just toolin' around a college campus or something... might as well ride a Segway then..

There's new batteries that are being developed that will charge in 5 minutes. Once they hit the market, these electric vehicles will be viable.  I'm guessing in a few years electric will begin to be very attractive, especially for city commuting.

wow, was that a post from our moderator? now if i can only get him to update the savage rider map........

electric + no sound = cars that cant hear you coming

loud pipes saves lives!!!

Remember those Loud Pipes that "save Lives" also prevent you from hearing the oncoming traffic. And they are driving legislation that will outlaw aftermarket pipes altogether. LOUD PIPES ARE ANTISOCIAL.

While I agree that extremely loud pipes are not beneficial, quiet stock pipes are a hazard.  We are not always seen, but if heard, we will be looked for.  Even the electric vehicles are concidered a hazard because they are so quiet.  Some noise is beneficial.

Electric vehicles are, indeed, quiet. But the only hazard documented from their silence is to pedestrians who do not hear them coming. The occupants of the vehicles are not endangered. Stock motorcycle pipes are adequately loud to protect pedestrians, or perhaps bicyclists.

Loud pipes, whether on a motorcycle or other vehicle, are not proven to be any sort of asset. In fact, recently there was a news article about a study of whether horns are any good, either. Noise diminishes rapidly with distance. The rider of the motorcycle is closer to the noise than anyone else, so is more affected. Which merely says what I said earlier - your own loud pipes will keep you from hearing other traffic far more effectively than it will alert other traffic of your presence.

We cannot deny that loud pipes annoy non-riders, as well as many riders. Loud pipes are the reason Denver enacted a law saying, essentially, any pipes not EPA approved for the specific motorcycle are illegal. I understand NYC is working on a similar ordinance. It will not surprise me if one of those ordinances calls for, not a fix-it ticket, but impoundment of the motorcycle on the spot, to be released only after it is equipped, by an authorized dealership, with factory exhausts. At the expense of the owner.

By the way, if you are relying on loud pipes to alert others to your presence, your defensive driving tactics need work. You cannot count on others to react to your presence. Sound will not protect you - people still run into trains. Bright lights, even flashing ones, will not protect you - people run into stopped ambulances and police cars. You must rely completely on your own defensive driving technique.

"Electric vehicles are, indeed, quiet....The occupants of the vehicles are not endangered."  So the rider of this electric bike need not worry if a pedestrian jumps out in front of him, it's ok for him to run them over?  Get real.

"Loud pipes, whether on a motorcycle or other vehicle, are not proven to be any sort of asset."  Whether proven by study or not I know it is an asset.

"In fact, recently there was a news article about a study of whether horns are any good, either. Noise diminishes r<a>pidly with distance." True, and what's the most likely danger to a m/cist?  The idiot next to him changing lanes cause he didn't bother to look out his window.  This has happened to me several times with a stock pipe.  And never since I changed to a supertrapp.

"The rider of the motorcycle is closer to the noise than anyone else, so is more affected. Which merely says what I said earlier - your own loud pipes will keep you from hearing other traffic far more effectively than it will alert other traffic of your presence."   Even with stock pipes, you can hear someone pull out of a driveway in front of you?

"By the way, if you are relying on loud pipes to alert others to your presence, your defensive driving tactics need work. You cannot count on others to react to your presence. Sound will not protect you - people still run into trains. Bright lights, even flashing ones, will not protect you - people run into stopped ambulances and police cars. You must rely completely on your own defensive driving technique."
Whose relying?  whose counting on?  It is merely one more ounce of prevention I put on daily.  It may tip the scales in my favor, it may not.  When you play poker, if it was legal to stack the deck in your favor would you?

If you can guarantee that Joe Cager won't talk to his passenger, won't blare his radio, won't eat, won't talk on his cell and pay attention to his driving, then these epa requirements would be fair and I'd be all for them.  It would not surprise me if the accident rates in Denver have gone up since this ordinace has gone into effect.

If we accept the truth of "Loud Pipes Save Lives," then we should mandate loud pipes on ALL vehicles, not just motorcycles. After all, if it is true, then it is true not only for motorcycles. The logical consequence leads to a cacaphony of noise, in which motorcycles are no louder than anything else. But lots of lives will be saved, because loud pipes will save them.

I expect another side effect of loud pipes is the total ban of motorcycles, which has already happened in some places. It is much easier to ban motorcycles altogether than to say only loud ones are banned. Just remember, every loud pipe is bad public relations for all motorcyclists, no matter what your personal views on their "life saving ability."

You said "loud pipes saves lives" not I.  I merely stated that quiet pipes are a hazard.  Since I'm invisible and naked, why can't I make myself more visible to the blind?  And not all loud pipes are bad p/r.

Maybe when we get our gps units that will report our mileages for taxes, we'll also get a proximetry alert so louder than stock pipes won't be neccessary.

But when in Denver, I will revert to stock pipe, and install a high powered radio.  Maybe I'll blare m/c music.   ;D

Actually, I quoted the previous poster, Savage Eddie, who said it. I don't believe it, and never did. I also do not believe quiet pipes are a hazard. If they are, we have millions upon millions of hazardously quiet automobiles out there on the streets.

remember we are naked and they wear a suit of armour.
an acident to us is a near death experience, to them only injury.

Loud pipes merely sound cool. They announce the presence of the rider, after they've passed. If loud pipes are truly part of an early warning system, then the motorcyling industry needs to be working on a way to route the exhaust so that the pipes face the front of the bike; announcing where the rider is going, instead of the rear of the bike, announcing where they have been. At highway speeds, the sound trailing after the rider will greet the cager at about the time he's recognized that a motorcycle has passed him. Far too late to afford any extra reaction time from even an engaged, undistracted driver. Happens to me all the time; especially with some of the Darwin award contenders zipping past me at 85+mph on the slab.

I disagree.  Sportbike squids doing wheelies in traffic is anti-social.  Guys riding open piped harleys and gunning the hell out of them for the heck of it is anti-social.  Being anti-social is a behavior.  Being bald is not anti-social.  Being bald, waving a Nazi flag and burning crosses is anti-social.   In my 20 years of riding, there are two things that get me noticed by cars and make them pause just before they pull out in front of me- adding driving lights and making pipes louder, with pipes proving more effective.  Same goes for dogs, racoons, birds eating roadkill or other animals that are on or just a little too close to the side of the road for my comfort.  Animal conservationists should applaud me for being considerate of our creatures.

My pipe isn't any louder than those pipes on many of the grandpa's dressed up harleys that they ride on in the local parades.  Neither they, nor I, intentionally do stupid squid stuff nor do we simply blast our pipes for the heck of it.

I do think it's funny how they are researching putting speakers in/on electric cars to project engine sounds after receiving reports of blind pedestrians have been hit by cars while crossing roads.

Charon, I have yet to see a place where all motorcycles have been banned because of a few loud ones as you have mentioned.  If they exist, I'll be sure not to live anywhere near those places.  People trying that desperately to be so politically correct would drive me nuts.

Since loud pipes are such bad public relations, maybe writing Obama and asking him to ban the Shriner's from my local parades this year is in order.  Those HD's are pretty loud.  Yet, somehow they continue to receive public donations and help our kids.

Oh, lets also ban off-road tires as well.  They make a heck of a lot more noise going down the road than my bike does.
