Title: I am sooo stupid! ( formerly 99 and 4 gears) Post by Wolf on 04/07/09 at 07:10:18 I have a '99 and have 1 down 3 up? How many gears should I have.... and how can I match the engine to the title? (meaning ... is this another engine.... thus older). I haven't gotten into the engine yet (soon), but now nervous I have a real project vrs a simple rebuild... Wolf :-? |

Title: Re: 99 and 4 gears? Post by verslagen1 on 04/07/09 at 07:43:32 The engine number should be on the title. The engine is a '94 or earlier. If the engine is of US origin, then '88 or earlier. |
Title: Re: 99 and 4 gears? Post by srinath on 04/07/09 at 09:06:23 Only CA titles have engine numbers. The whole rest of the country (I dunno of another state that is like CA) has titles with just Frame number. Cool. Srinath. |
Title: Re: 99 and 4 gears? Post by BurnPgh on 04/07/09 at 11:48:27 My friend just bought a '95 and the seller told him it was a 4 speed. its not. 4-5 is a tricky shift sometimes. You can hit a false nuetral or it just wont shift sometimes. I let the clutch out just a wee bit while pressing up on the shifter from 4-5 and it pops right into 5th. |

Title: Re: 99 and 4 gears? Post by Wolf on 04/07/09 at 15:02:45 Well, Thanks for the replies... needless to say, the title in FL list year of make and ID#. It shifts 4 speed and my new made for a '99 Raask dargpipe, well... it won't fit. It is too shallow (exhaust port) for the muffler... >:( I got the factory muffler and muffler bracket off easy enough.... for the first time it took a lil' longer looking for nuts, bolts and Clymers hehe I gots a mutt! Oh. I took apart both seats and swapped the received pad and cover to my seat pan... a weeeee tight as mine was a full 2 inches wider and the shape deeper... it is together and will pass for a factory save 2 wee ripples... It looks good and with the Raask... oops >:( I have the K&N filter and was about to rip apart my air box.... well, the engine is getting pulled apart as I have on order jetsets and such... don't want the wrong items shipped... this sucks... Oh well, "Buyer Beware" ... is there much difference between a '96 and a '99 (engines that is)? Thanks Wolf :'( |
Title: Re: 99 and 4 gears? Post by Wolf on 04/09/09 at 05:43:56 I... AM SOOOOO STUPID! Sivert did a wonderful job! ... and the 60mm dragpipe just needs to be torque and final tightening. After a double and a wee something! cough cough... :-X I took another look,,, and it just ... drift... came to me how it is assembled, I had taken off the Suzuki muffler support rig .... doh :-? ... it still is currently a 4 spead/ or at least no function "gear" somewhere... so I guess I need to look at the tranny soon. I also noticed how "white" my exhaust ports were... so I guess that is next... ... off to get me a torque wrench! So.. I will aptly rename this thread to "I am so stupid" I have taken pictures so I will pop back to the bobber chopper thread. (I'll attach hear later the thread) Wo;f :-[ |
Title: Re: I am sooo stupid! ( formerly 99 and 4 gears) Post by clueless on 04/09/09 at 05:55:20 A '96 is a 5 speed. Read Max's post again. You should be able to tell by looking. |
