Title: Starter gear offset? Reassembly...pics included!!!

There are three gears on the starter idle limiter. Problem is they aren't lined up. Are they suppose to be? Is the other gear suppose to be angled?

You gotta push that idle gear in further

That gear with the 3 misaligned teeth is an anti back lash gear.  Clymer doesn't give a clue how to align those teeth, but does say that gear goes on 2nd after the driven gear (big one). then the other gear.

I'd take the starter out for now.

How would I get that gear to go down further? With the idler gears 3 teeth offset, the straight tooth gear cant slide past the first one. I did put them in the order the book says, I doesn't seem like it matters. Does anyone have a picture of this gear or know more about how these mesh togheter?

The 3 gears are hold together by friction. Take a flat-nose punch and line-up the gears one-by-one.

Thank you, that makes sense, just didn't want to break it.
