Title: Cam chain.... and the such!
Post by Chopped on 04/02/09 at 19:31:57

I remember seeing a thread on here about a performance cam... anyone seen that layin around?

Oh, and there is supposed to be a spring in the Cam Chain Tensioner right? Cause I noticed I didn't have one... what kinda problems could come of that?

Contact lancer to see if he's still doing it.

if your adjuster doesn't have a spring it won't keep the chain tight.

even if it is ratcheted out with the chain pretty snug when I put it back together? If there isn't a spring would that explain the bit of a knocking I have... not pinging like a valve hitting just a low little knock!

I wouldn't trust it.

So did you or the PO intentionally take out the spring?

For manual adjustment?

The pawl is pretty secure, but there are a lot of unknowns and one could bounce it unengaged and take the tension all the way off.

Now with that being said... I have wondered if a rod or strip of metal attached to the adjuster be positioned to be seen thru the oil fill hole.  In your case, a series of holes in the end could give you the opportunity to since up the adjustment w/o opening the cover.

Verslagen... as usual... I like the way you think! I may just try my hand at creating my own verslavy or creat my own "Chopped" Version!

I think the springs are too good & forcing the chain tighter than necessary & the Click in the adjuster causes the chain to be painfully stretched as the jug gets taller from heat. My plan is to remove some of the teeth on the adjuster.

that could be... or you can cut part of the spring off... stretchit a bit... makes it lighter on the push!

Ayyyupp, thats a thought, too. I might just do that & cut out every other tooth.
