Title: Engine replacement Post by CyprusCruiser on 04/02/09 at 03:18:59 I snapped a valve yesterday and done all sorts of damage so now looking for a replacement engine and wondering if there are any other options than just the savage engine? is there anything else out there that will bolt right in. My problem is i stay in Cyprus and spares/salvage parts are quite rare so the more options i have the more chance i can find something. My log book says my savage is a 1992 but i suspect this was when it was imported and its just a 4 speed. Does a 5 speed fit? Any help appreciated thanks. |
Title: Re: Engine replacement Post by Reelthing on 04/02/09 at 06:49:45 I have not done a 5-speed engine swap on a 4-speed bike - it should go in fine - just make sure you get later model ign module to go with it as these are different |
Title: Re: Engine replacement Post by SURAZAL on 04/02/09 at 07:03:21 why not get the parts and rebuild which should be lots easier piston, head , cylinder if needed ... you really could do this easier than a total replacement engine ... get a local small engine repair guy or trades school class to help they would do if for a project ... good luck keep up posted |
Title: Re: Engine replacement Post by verslagen1 on 04/02/09 at 07:25:53 I have swapped to a 5speed from 4speed, no problems. Get the CDI module with the engine. new head, cylinder and piston will be close to $1000. A used engine can be had for $400 to 600, of course that's over here. Good luck. |

Title: Re: Engine replacement Post by Carl on 04/02/09 at 19:23:19 Hi There should be 2 dates on your Log book, The date the bike was registered in Cyprus and the year of manufacture. Unfortunately you are right with your assumption on spare parts, there are none except for main dealer. Best Suggestion is to try from UK or Germany as shipping costs from the US are very high for an engine. Also if you get a 5 speed, make sure you get the Ignition module with the engine as they are different. Regards Carl |
