Title: Dumb question, but I have to ask. Post by bluesavage218 on 03/27/09 at 12:59:02 When handlebars (ape hangers) are sized at like say 10'', it's referring to the distance from the risers to the grips, right? |

Title: Re: Dumb question, but I have to ask. Post by diamond jim on 03/27/09 at 13:05:49 I re-read your post and was editing it when you replied back. I had read it wrong and changed my response. Yes, from the bottom (mounted in the risers) to the top (grips). |
Title: Re: Dumb question, but I have to ask. Post by bluesavage218 on 03/27/09 at 13:09:59 Ok thanks. I'm trying to decide if I should go with 12" or 10" bars. I know someone on here siad that If you go 10" you don't have to get new wires but I just can't decide on those 2 extra inches haha. |
Title: Re: Dumb question, but I have to ask. Post by diamond jim on 03/27/09 at 13:15:17 I did this trick when I was thinking about apes. I've got exposed rafters in the garage. I threw some rope over a rafter and suspended a 3 foot long pipe horizontally above the bike over the handlebar area. I raised and lowered it until it felt perfect then measured the distance. I also did the opposite. I set the bar specifically where it would be at for 10", 12", 14" and 16" apes and tried it out. |
Title: Re: Dumb question, but I have to ask. Post by bluesavage218 on 03/27/09 at 13:20:01 Great idea. I was actually trying to come up with some way that I could judge which is better. I'll definately have to try that. |
Title: Re: Dumb question, but I have to ask. Post by diamond jim on 03/27/09 at 13:32:16 Be sure to set the pipe up and then move the bike up under it. Otherwise you risk slipping while trying to tie and the pipe hitting the tank or headlight. |
