Title: HEADLIGHT MODULATORS Post by alcoa on 03/24/09 at 09:48:02 They are legal in all states, now where can I get one for the savage [s40]. Has anyone got one? They should come on all bikes anything to be safer. :) |

Title: Re: HEADLIGHT MODULATORS Post by ebmiller2 on 03/25/09 at 08:41:30 I have two bikes (a '01 Savage and a '96 Honda Magna), one with a modulator (the savage) and one without. I have had it on the savage for over a year, and have yet to have anyone pull out in front of me. However, if you install one be prepared for a lot of people to stop to tell you that your headlight is flashing. :) Ed Bel Air, MD |
Title: Re: HEADLIGHT MODULATORS Post by mpescatori on 03/25/09 at 08:50:04 When visiting in the States I did see a couple of bikes equipped with modulators. Here's my two cents: 1) The headlight flashes too rapidly; it is quite visible, very annoying and, according to my Mrs. (a doctor) could actually trigger an epileptic fit. 2) It would be best if the modulator gave three possibilities: a. steady bright; b. steady dim; c. flash slowly (i.e. 1/sec, not 5/sec.) Given the Savage's very weak generator (rated at 100W = 8 amps only, can anyone confirm?) this means NO daylight driving lights... |
Title: Re: HEADLIGHT MODULATORS Post by Rustbucket on 03/25/09 at 08:54:21 They aren't legal in some states. Something about only emergency vehicles can use a flashing, modulating headlights.. It was mentioned in the MSF class here. |
Title: Re: HEADLIGHT MODULATORS Post by youzguyz on 03/25/09 at 09:15:34 Modulators are annoying. >:( If I find something annoying to me, then I won't put it on my bike, as I don't want to annoy others. That includes modulators and "overly loud" exhaust. Is that a personal opinion?? Sure is!!!! ;) |
Title: Re: HEADLIGHT MODULATORS Post by verslagen1 on 03/25/09 at 10:17:28 Yes modulators are anoying and I can only stand looking at them from far away, up close I don't look at them. So if you don't want to be seen... |

They are legal in all states by federal law IF they automatically stop modulating at night. See here: http://www.webbikeworld.com/Motorcycle-technical-articles/Modulator-regs.htm However, you might want to print out the proper paperwork and carry it with you. |
Title: Re: HEADLIGHT MODULATORS Post by WoodLark on 03/26/09 at 18:17:22 Bear-Rider is correct; they are legal in all states under federal law and also in Canada. I have been using modulators on my motorcycles for many years. The only negative is that they are much more expensive than they used to be (so is everything else!). |

That's a low beam function. During daytime I always ride with high beam on. |
Title: Re: HEADLIGHT MODULATORS Post by justin_o_guy2 on 03/28/09 at 09:10:41 Im usually in High Beam, too, so I wobble the High/Low switch a few times & watch the driver I am worried most about. |
