Title: 8000 miles and bluing free
Post by Mr. Hyde on 03/21/09 at 09:40:21

This bike is a 2006 that had the white spacer mod at the outset. The chrome on the header looks as good as the day it was made.http://w4.bikepics.com/pics/2009%5C03%5C21%5Cbikepics-1607361-200.jpg

That's the consequence of putting a lot of fire through the inside of the pipe without cooling air flow (from motion) on the outside.

Just paint your bike 1987 purple.  Then the bluing looks good on there.

Picked my 2001 up with 10K miles on it and the pipe was nice, no blueing.    And.... it still had the white spacer and the mix plug capped.

This http://www.jaskowiak.cc/S40/S40%20One%20Year%20Old%20-%200002.JPG is from last year when mined turned a year old.  I'd post the actual picture but it's really big.

I'm wondering if it's got to do with riding style as well as gas quality.  Most of my riding is to-and-from work with about 50% at highway speeds.  That should keep the pipe cooler.  Also, I ran super unleaded in it when I was breaking it in.  I've noticed the blueing started when I switched over to regular at about 1500 miles.

Also, I'm getting a little blueing on the muffler itself.  Is this normal?
