Title: KN AIR FILTER
Post by Jimmer on 03/19/09 at 15:24:23

Does anyone know the model number for the chrome KN performance air filter for the savage. I haven't been able to find it. Probability been looking the wrong place. Thanks

Was the link I gave you on your other thread not what you were looking for?  If there are differences, be sure to post pics and numbers when you find out.

Diamond Jim
The info you gave me was correct for that model (KN RC1250). What I looking for is the filter that goes directly on the carb throat thus eliminating the black tube that goes from the carb to the air filter housing. I'll be sure and let everyone know when I find what I'm looking for. Thanks again for you help.

I have the box mine came in out in the garage, I will look later and see what it says. I'm pretty sure I have the exact same one that your asking about.

Here are the ones my K&N cone filter search shows:

RC-1250

I've never had the K&N pod filter so I wasn't sure.  But it can get confusing looking at all those different model numbers on the K&N site.  Also, other sellers could mistakenly list the number with a wrong description or use the wrong pic.  Definitely get the K&N over the other brands.  Mine was an ebay K&N imitation that didn't need the oil.  It had an internal narrowing that I'm pretty sure now the K&N cone filters don't have.

Wow, check this out: http://www.oldbritts.com/42_100004.html

Look at the 4th pic.  My off-brand pod filter wasn't anywhere near that thick/dense.

Just to let you guys know, I ended up ordering a RC1250 KN filter. Payed $33.00 for it, seems like a good price. What do you think good or not.

I have it too. $33 sound fair. Hey, it's a KN! ;-)

Sounds good to me.  Have you got a new pilot jet and main?  Have you done the mixture screw mod?

Mr Diamond Jim
I've done the Lancer carb modifications and the mixture screw. Probably have to tweak it after I put the KN filter on.

:-/

K/N or the other brand  or the cone filter offered here...

What are the difference besides the oiling of the K/N and the price?

   -filter quality
   -performance issues

Thanks

Wolf :)

Lancer Jetset kit ordered so that issue resolved

Remember, those use K&N Cleaner & K&N oil. An airhose cleaning voids the warranty.

I was using the one on the left.  I got mine off of ebay last fall for 19.99 + shipping.  It's this one- http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/SUZUKI-SAVAGE-LS650-S40-HIGH-PERFORMANCE-CONE-FILTER_W0QQitemZ150329972887QQcmdZViewItem#ebayphotohosting from notorious flightsimshop.

Avoid it.  It has a narrowing inside that the K&N on the right does not  have. Examining and measuring mine (the left one) revealed that the internal narrowing interferes some with the airflow that enters the pilot air jet opening located at the top of the inside mouth of the stock carb.  Either get Lancer's or the K&N.

I've used K and N filters in cars and motorcycles, could see no improvement. In power or gas mileage.

Thanks diamond jim

Lancers does not require oil ... right...
Has anyone tried Lancers model?  Just curious, because this is the route i intended to go to clean up the look.

I haven't but I'm sure his is the model I've seen going for about $39 although I think Lancer sells them for less.
