Title: Rattle up front...
Post by doc5446 on 03/18/09 at 10:06:54

Went for a trip around the block today and noticed a rattle coming from the front of the bike. I read somewhere about "headlight rattle", is this normal and can it be fixed? I'm about to flip 10,000 on my '05.

I found an interesting rattle at idle in the front end ... it was the wound spring metal protector around the brake line to the front brake ... so I took it and just streched sections of it while in place ... hmm I think I did 8 and that seems to have cleared it all up ... good luck

Yes, a headlight rattle is pretty common as well as the speedometer housing rattle. Both can be easily fixed. Check the tech/ref section. It has pretty much been well documented.

its an easy mod. Pull your tach, and put black electrical tape along the three tubes where the screws go into the tach. Its the springs that rub against these little shafts and rattle. You may also want to put some tape on the edges of where the speedo housing sits on the tank. Cured my rattle.

Use your rattle dampener to fine the source of the audible indication.
