Title: Tach... Post by doc5446 on 03/15/09 at 16:02:35 I need advice from the elders...I want to install a tach, simple and inexpensive...any advice? |
Title: Re: Tach... Post by Charon on 03/15/09 at 16:40:46 There is a thread in the tech section about tachs that work on the Savage. |
Title: Re: Tach... Post by marine5317 on 03/15/09 at 17:47:25 Our thumpers are "double fire" so you have to get the right tach. This is the one I have on mine that I bought online from "Onida Suzuki" for $70.79 to my door. It is Drag Specialies #DS244133 w/black face. If you check around I think you will find that this is the best price. Ride Safe Marine5317 |

Cool, my stealership carries those. May have to see if they'll hold up the their "free installation" deal if I order one from them. ;D If not I'd go with the Oneida Suzuki deal, it's cheaper. |

Title: Re: Tach... Post by spike on 03/17/09 at 04:44:56 Is that a thumb Throttle on there? My brother-in-law said that's the only way he'll buy a bike is if he can put one on. He gets confussed on the twist throttles. LOL. Strange I know. :o |

That is a cruise control for the bike, it is really just a throttle lock. It looks a little strange and makes me reach around it for the starter, but I really like the one I have on my bike. It is really nice for long rides. Mike |

Title: Re: Tach... Post by doc5446 on 03/17/09 at 06:09:08 As for the tach, I think I'm goin' with the dial style. I'm kinda goin' for the old school look anyway and I think the dial would be easier to read in direct sunlight. |
Title: Re: Tach... Post by doc5446 on 03/17/09 at 08:21:49 Alright, I was digging thru some of my old tool boxes and found an old tach. Looks kinda generic but functional. It goes up to 8000 RPM and has a 3 way switch on the back that has 8, 6, and 4.How do I know if it will work on my thumper. It also has 4 wires, black, white, red, and green... |
Title: Re: Tach... Post by Big Nix on 03/17/09 at 09:39:12 yah that tach won't work on your bike, the 8, 6, & 4 are refering to the number of cylinders that it'll work with. Back in the day I had a '81 f150 that was a stick, so when i got it of course i wanted a tach, well found that out after i installed it what that little switch was for. I didn't even look and left it on 8 and couldn't figure out why it wasn't reading right. Actually read the instructions and saw that it needed to be set on the 6, beings i had an inline 6 cylinder. So to clarify through all my rambling no it won't work on your savage. |
