Title: Breather Tube?

For those of you with the cone air filters, what do you do with your crankcase breather tube?

i think consensus is to keep it above the carb and end the tube with a small cone air filter.  I havent found a filter small enough for mine just yet, but thats what I plan on doing.  HTH

I wonder if an air bubbler for an aquarium would be small enough to use there..

I used a regular plastic inline fuel filter.

A lot of members use this little guy.  You can get one at Autozone and likely any other chain auto store for about $4.

Oops, they are about $12 actually.

Well, It's sure Cute, but for $12.00, I'd have a look at the aquarium air bubbler or build a little filter. That $12.00 would go in the tank.

Are you talking about one of these?

I'm sure it's possible to use one of those but I don't think it would work very well.

How big is the breather tube - maybe 1/2 inch inside diameter? They make it that big for a reason. A good bit of air moves around into and out of the crankcase when that big single piston reciprocates. Don't restrict the flow any more than is necessary, or you might get unwanted side effects like leaky seals.

I got a mini cone from autozone for like $6.  Looks good with the big cone on the carb. I just let it hang there, behind the clutch and throttle cables.

Do you get any oil build up in it when it is so low??   I thought the consense was that it should be put so that the oil condensate drains back into the head.

Hey everyone!!! Thanks to all of you. I tend to over-think things. I was stoked to start working on the bike but when the breather tube came up I hadn't even considered it I had no clue what to do. I took a few days off work this week and can't wait to finish what I'm doing to my bike and get back on the road.!!!

Mine looks like the red one and I know it didn't cost 12 bucks because I would have laughed at them all day long. I think it was more like 6-7 and I got it at a motorcycle shop. I just took my hose in and we found something that would fit.

nope.  just pulled the filter to give it a look see...  there was a little oil in the tube (the inside of the tube was moist, nothing more), but the filter was dry.  Had it on there for 8 months? something like that.  Seems to be doing OK!
