I went to clean the air filter for the first time after buying my '86 Savage a couple weeks ago. To my surprise, it's not there!!! Makes me wonder what else is missing! Here are pictures of the box where its supposed to be:

Does it look like all I need to buy is a new filter, or is there something else I need to get?

Do you recommend I use the K&N replacement (http://www.knfilters.com/search/product.aspx?Prod=SU-6595)?

I hope no one was running/riding it without an air filter. Who knows what got sucked into the carbs ...

I use a K&N slip in filter and haven't had any trouble with it. (which reminds me, I probably need to pull it and clean it again.)

My dad bought a used car to run up & down the West Tx roads. He was watching after a few drilling rigs & they are always down caliche roads. he really liked that car, till it started drinking oil. It had no air filter & he had run it a couple of months, about 10,000 miles. One year he broke the 100,000 mile mark. Spent half his earnings on a ;awyer, trying to keep him legal to drive, cuz that guy HAD some Tikkits!
His friends all did too, One of them, when the cop was walking up, Pointed to his gun & asked him" Is that gun loaded?",, He said the cop stopped & grabbed his gun & told him "Yea, Its loaded, Why?"

The guy "Well, just shoot me now, I cant afford another darned tikkit!"

I don't know how long the previous owner was riding it without a filter, but I've gone around 20 miles now before discovering it wasn't there. By the looks of it, all I need is another filter, right? Or do I have to get any other parts? Thanks for letting me know.

All you need is a new filter. I got a used one for you. It would be perfect to make into a OF super filter.
