Title: Suicide shift
Post by Big Nix on 02/28/09 at 19:19:09

Was just wondering if anybody had ever heard of somebody moding a savage to a suicide or jockey shift?  Just found out I gotta have surgery on my left foot and would rather not go with out riding for the next 5 to 6 months.  So if anybodys got any kind of input or ideas it would be greatly appreaciated. thanks
Nix 8-)

Don't most suicide/jokey shifted bikes use the left foot as the clutch?  If you can figure how to get around that you'd be in luck.

okay so on that one they kept the clutch on the left handle bar but just worked up some linkage so they could shift with the right hand.  Not sure how i'd do that but could pry make it work.  Don't really even have a garage right now but could do some measureing and figuring.  Thanks and keep the ideas comeing.

Also, you can get/make a heel/toe shifter too.  Add a peg near the heel to step on to shift up.

Is your foot going to be in a brace or too tender to shift?

Also there are auto shifters that add a solenoid to pull the shifter up.

Saw long time ago on the German forum a guy with one leg riding the Savage. Looks he had forward controls and was shifting and braking with his RH foot. Would not be tooo difficult to operate the shifter from the RH side I gues.

Well they're gonna cut on my big toe and where it meets the foot, take out a pieace of bone and stick two pins in my foot.  I don't imagine that it would be all that hard to move the shifter too the right and just keep the clutch on the left.  Just gonna have to look and get some ideas.

make your shifter and then instead of having your clutch lever on the handle bars flip it upside down, mount it on the rod for your shiftknob and shorten the cable so your left hand is still pulling the clutch and shifting....

i do like that idea of having the clutch on the shifter just would take some more modding but, would also be easier wouldn't have to take it to the other side of the bike could leave it on the left then.  Pirty much just make an arm that would come up off where the linkage meets into the tranny.

Steel toe boots/shoes.They'll take all the pressure instead of your toes.
