Title: exhaust options Post by splash07 on 02/26/09 at 15:07:04 I have been running a turn down and washer baffle for a while but I dont think that I am getting the back pressure I need to tune the carb properly. I also am not a huge fan of the sound of the short open pipe, not low enough. Does anyone have suggestions for a pipe that sounds good and does not require the exhaust bracket. Weight is always an issue and if I can keep it light that is best. Also any homemade baffle ideas are a great use in this application. |

Title: Re: exhaust options Post by T Mack 1 on 02/26/09 at 18:40:59 I have a turn-out too, and it was too LOUD..... baffled it down on the inlet side. Took a small 1 3/4 inch pipe piece I bought at Auto-Zone and a Drag Specialties baffle. (Like Diamond Jim used http://suzukisavage.com/cgi-bin/YaBB.pl?num=1233415444/8#8 ) The pipe fits over the inner header pipe. The small end of the baffle fit in the header. We cut down the baffle so that it was no longer than the pipe (maybe 4 inches) Then welded it in the 1 3/4 pipe. It slips inside the muffler and quites it down.... but if I try I can still set off some car alarms..... click to see a picture of my bike (http://www.users.fast.net/~tommack/Tom-LS650-5.JPG) |

And because of it's size, it has a real nice rumble when slowing down..... 8-) |
Title: Re: exhaust options Post by splash07 on 02/27/09 at 06:06:54 Thanks for the help on the issue I have a good Idea of what direction I am going to take the exhaust now. Probably a shorter 3-4" version of the baffle that jim used mounted right at the end of the header pipe. |
Title: Re: exhaust options Post by diamond jim on 02/27/09 at 06:37:53 Splash, if you are doing a short exhaust or one that has a diameter larger than 1.75", you might want to consider a fibrosleeve. It's an internal exhaust mod I came up with that some of the M50 owners use over at motorcycle-journal.com. Search for "fibrosleeve". http://www.motorcycle-journal.com/forum/436410-post1.html |
