Title: Solid Copper head gasket
Post by SURAZAL on 02/25/09 at 12:11:53

I am rebuilding an 87 engine and resent the out of line cost ($25) for a one use head gasket ... I have contacted a manufacturer of solid copper reacing head gaskests who will manufacture one for $20 plus shipping and I can order one .062 thick so can actually take some of the wear lengthening of the cam chain while I am at it ... should prove interesting and I can can also re-use it,  if I take the top end apart for service or experimentation ... just thought I would let you guys would like to know .. this is how we use to do racing engines when I grew up.

I am just placing the order today ... I had to send in my old head   gasket for a patttern and pay the original $20 set up charge for programming the NC machine ... the owner said if one buys 3 or more the price is $14 plus shipping ... I will let you all know what the product looks like when I get it and will test it in the rebuilt engine I have to hand ... if it works well maybe we can put together a group order and all save a some money, I certainly plan to get a 2nd one when I figure out what thinkness I like for my 2002 which is currently at 7100 miles and I expect will need some engine work on the next 2 years.

Im not sure how much thicker that is than the factory one (Im sure not much) but that tech. will lower the amazingly low compression of our motors even more....dont think its enoufe to notice though...but copper headgaskets are nice and can be very reliable. and that price is awesome.

it would be $14 for each new head gasket
plus the shipping for the batch
with a minimum order of 3 for the discount from $20 each

sorry hope I didn't  confuse anyone
just looked at my orginal post and thought it was not clear
