Title: Clutch problem
Post by Savage Eddie on 02/23/09 at 21:01:28

i guessing the float stuck and flooded my crankcase and may have damaged the clutch, it grabs way to early. being a wet clutch is it possible to correct this problem with out replacement? i have 10 k and just bought another 99 savage to swap motor and trans and wondered if this in normal for this flooding problem or is there a adjustment i can do to bring it back to life....

any ideas?

Change the oil, let it soak, maybe lean it way low to that side and leave it overnite.

It is an oiled clutch and you thinned out the oil with gasoline -- of course it is going to be grabby for a while.

Change out the oil and adjust the clutch to the new grab point.

Use it a while and it will begin to behave normally.  Expect the grab point to change over the next few days some as the proper weight of oil migrates back into the clutch fiber material.   Just keep it in proper adjustment as it moves on you.

Your clutch grab point will shift even if you change weights of oil, so you should expect this sorta stuff to happen.
