Hidden inside the stainless steel covers is the pod filter. I'm going to paint the inside circle black and swap the nuts and washers for a spike nut.

Looks like the Harley and other bobber with a oiltank mounted to the frame....kinda cool looking. I was wanting to do something that looked like a oiltank but could come up with a use of it, this could be one.

but I'm not gonna pay $150+ for it. My bowls and hardware cost a grand total of $6.17 so it won't hurt if and when I change it again.

Very nice. Like I said yesterday you bike just keeps getting better. I only have one question. Do you work....other than on your bike? ;D
You are adding new mods daily so one has to wonder if you do anything else other than mod your bike. In any case it is one of the nicest and cleanest savage\S40s I have ever seen.

He mounted it in the right saddlebag if I remember correctly from a previous thread. VERY nice looking bike if you ask me and is the direction I'm going with mine, well sorta.

Ha ha. The battery is in the right saddlebag.

I've just had a lot of free time the past few weeks. I finally got some real tools too. Up to a week ago the only power tools I had were a drill, hand held angle grinder and orbital sander. I had no vise, no clamps, nothing decent to work with. All has been done by hand. Hack saws, files, etc. I have a pretty good knack at figuring out how to do things with few tools and without help. But last weekend I added a vise, drill press, bench grinder, clamps, tap and die sets, etc. I had a lot of that left over in my parents garage from like 15-20 years ago.

Here's some details about the air filter mod construction.

I used a 4 way PVC connector. I don't know what it is technically called.

Here you can see how the 1/4" threaded rod goes through the whole assembly.

I plugged the ends of the crosswise openings, drilled and tapped a 1/4" hole in each end and threaded the rod through. That both seals it and makes the rod stable.

Then another plug that allowed me to adjust the spacing just right.

Then a large fender washer for stability.

An added benefit is that the bowls reduce the intake noise so I can hear that lovely exhaust from the custom pipe.

Ah, I see! 8-) The dog bowls are basically covers then. I was thinking you'd put a couple round filters under them on each side or something. Which would give you all kinds of airflow! :o

No, I didn't but that would be easy to do though. However a single cone filter provides more than enough air. But if you wanted to it would be quite easy and cheaper than the pod filters. You can get small round high quality dune buggy filters that fit a 57mm OD opening (that means it would fit both our carbs and this PVC pipe) for about $9 each. Look for the same exact filter marketed for a motorcycle and suddenly the price goes up to $20 or more for each.
