Title: Re: Full Engine Teardown??? Post by verslagen1 on 02/17/09 at 09:00:55 I wouldn't say easy, but not hard. Can you say 'Clymers'? |
Title: Re: Full Engine Teardown??? Post by T Mack 1 on 02/17/09 at 09:29:24 Full tear down of the bottom??? So, there is a special tool for removing the flywheel. Other than that, regular metric tools will work. I highly suggest using an impact wrench. Can we ask why you are doing a full tear down? I split my lower case to clean because the Prev owner had melted the piston. I had to check for aluminum flakes. But, I only had to take one half apart. For the the flywheel side, I only took the cover off to clean, I left the flywheel on the crank and tranny in place. Someone else here split the case because of a thrown valve had put a hole in the piston. He found fragments in the case. |
Title: Re: Full Engine Teardown??? Post by PipJones on 02/17/09 at 10:31:03 i'm trying to do a trade with a 92 sportster 1200 and i've got some oil leaks. i know i'm leaking at the top end (maybe the head plug??? might not have pushed the plug down all the way) and near the front pully for the belt. I just want to clean it up and make sure its in tip top condition for this guy to see if i can squeak by without payin him any extra. I love this bike, but its just not big enough and not enough throttle for my liking. I also am looking for a larger bike to chop into a piece of artwork and the savage just doesn't seem like the bike to do it on. If possible i'd like to not get a service manual. I'm a mechanic by profession so tearing into things doesn't bother or scare me..... what specail tool is needed for the flywheel? I don't know if i'm giong to get THAT deep into it, but just in case do you know what it is? |
