Title: Mounted my Highway Pegs
Post by SavRon on 02/15/09 at 11:05:47

Already had the crash bar mounted to the bike. I purchased a Chrome Bar with foot pegs off Ebay for $10. I used ( 2 ) 3 '' L brackets, one end mounted to the upper crash bar mount and the highway bar mounted to the other end.

Works perfect. Pegs fold up outta the way and its just the right height and length. Now I can extend my legs up and out a bit. Should be a little more comfortable on the longer cruses.  :)

I added the Wingerline highway bars this winter. I can't wait for a chance to ride with them!

I hope those brackets are just for trial, taint gonna last.

Are those fairly stout?  I've heard the factory Suzuki case "guards" aren't really that solid. :-/  Eventually I want something to mount some highway pegs too, but would like it to be stout enough to do some good if worse came to worst and it got laid down.

Yeah, I think they seem pretty sturdy. And for me (5'6") they'll act as my highway pegs too.

Ron - I was thinking this too... Why not mount the pegs right on the engine guard?

You are correct. I've been testing them since I posted earlier. The L brackets are a bit flimsy and will not hold up. I'm going to install an 1/8 '' thick piece of angle iron for the final piece. I can get a piece cut at work. A 3'' X 3'' piece will work.

Tried working out how to do that, but I wanted the pegs a little more forward. Where the bracket places them now is perfect.

This is a work in progress since the bike is still in the house, and riding season here in Ohio is a ways off yet. I hate Winter... >:(

I'd use equally sized piece of metal to mount the bar or have another strap going to the lower side.

you could get some off-set mounts and mount them right to the highwy bar and still have plenty of leg room

Cool, thanks!  Another item to add to my wish list. ::)

A little pricey, but well worth it for the comfort. Also it actually gives the poor little engine cage guard a useful purpose!

Love the whitewalls. How 'bout posting a full pic of that beauty?

Thanks Jay, I've spent the winter doing alot of Mods and I thought I'd post pics of them all at once. But here's a pic taken this weekend.

Al,
Which Kuryakyn pegs are those, any model or info would be helpful. THOSE are just the thing for those long rides.

Those look like the Kuryakan 7980  longhorn offset dually pegs. I've been researching them for my bike. Best price I found so far was from

They are the Model 7980, and I paid $117.95 in December from Motorcycle Accessory Warehouse Online. They are now going for 134.95

I got mine from e-bay and got a really good deal. I originally bought the dually pegs with the straight mounts but they didn't give me much more leg room, so I bought a set of off-set mounts and that really made a difference. Watch e-bay and you might get a good deal.

I'm running a set of 5" Ed-L forward controls and am considering a set of Kuryakyn Swing-Wing footpegs. They fold out to add an extra 3" extention forward and can be angled on the spline to set the peg at a range of heights. JPcycles has them in stock if anyone else wants to take a look; they are expencive though so be forwarned.

I just added a pair of Show Chrome deluxe fold up foot pegs to mine. I am 5'9" and they are just the right distance away to allow me to stretch my legs out and they are nowhere near as expensive as Kuryakyns. They are very sturday and the chrome finish is very nice. I got them from jcwhiney.com

Now if I could only find the offset mounts for a good deal, then I could easily afford a more comfy ride. I like the Kuryakyns look, and they have good quality, but I'm on a budget too! :)

Maybe Ed L. can make some FC that include highway peg mounts.
