is it possible? Will it last since the stock compression is high?
Anyone have ever attempted it?

Hmmm....... high compression but low compression ratio (8.5).

Me thinks that there is a difference in these terms... Sorry I can't remember what the diff is ....

EDIT: somewhere here is a picture of a LS650 with a turbo......

yeah seen the pict with turbo, but who knows if it runs?

Even though it only has 8.5 compression ratio, we still develope over 100 psi compression. Get to high and you'll blow out the head gasket.

This was discussed awhile back. As I recall;
1. the studs- are they up to it? not likely
2. turbo will put a lot more heat to the OHC, more cooling & oiling
3. Head may need O-ring.
4. piston? Is it up to the task?

On cars you usually decrease comp ratio a bit first, thicker head gasket, trim down the piston etc.. to stay in the safe zone when turbo starts blowing, but still have enough psi for the combustion cycle to run without turbo assistance (idle, low rpm...)... It's not impossible, but is it worth it?? First f**up - you blow the engine...

Ive done several turbo cars in the past most being my own and of course I had thought about passing the idea along to the savage but here is some things to think about....
yea its a low compression motor but its almost "too" low. It would a very small turbo to be able to spool up, not create a bunch of boost/ boost creap, and also the motor doesnt rev real high so it would have to spool almost instant....
Parts for these things are "kinda" hard to come by especially "performace" parts...
The setup would be sooooo easy and could be done in a weekend with no problems..The hardest part would be the fuel delevery.. You would have to find a carb that would work with the setup and not under or over fuel it. I personally thing a draw-thru set up would be the easist and most "reliable" way to go...
Would it be cool and fun oh yea! could it be done? very easy! biggest thing just make sure you are ready for some "issues" and tuning headacs!
It would defently have a very deep mean throthy sound too...

First thing I would do motor wise is get all the info on the headstuds and try to find some "upgraded" ones..ARP or someone like that
Next I would prob. leave the compression where it is at least to start with. Bump it up later if all goes well...
The savage is a bigsingle wich the heads are not complacated so you really dont have to worrie about them flowing too bad but then again great thing about boost is that you can shove it through...
I would prob. go ahead and throw a new set of rings on. Aleast stock replacement.....
then do alot of research on carbs and what others have used on setup "like these"....
