Title: cylinder gasket Post by kennycreed on 02/06/09 at 22:25:07 It says in the divine hallowed book of words not to put any sealant on the cy. head gasket,(ie.put on a new gasket which I haven't got) but after scraping off the black sealant left from the original gasket on the head and cylinder faces there doesn't seem to be any black stuff left on the gasket itself which is in excellent condition, would just a smear of copper gasket sealant on the faces be detrimental (that's a good one had to get it in somewhere) to torquing the head down |

Bad bet otherwise, as a head gasket pressure leak means do it all over again. Your top end takes too durn long to take off. And yet, on flat topped lawmower engines, who hasn't reused a head gasket every now and again? And got away with it? |

The supplier takes my order then sends to Germany for it. I haven't found anybody in the UK that holds a stock of LS parts maybe if anybody in the UK reads this and knows of a place in the UK that supplies Suzuki LS parts they could let me know,,and thanks for coming back,,all the best to you and yours |

Title: Re: cylinder gasket Post by kennycreed on 02/07/09 at 15:22:52 Aye right enough. but I have two near complete sets of gaskets but used up the cyl. head gaskets out of both the sets, I am trying to find somewhere that sells the cylinder head gasket separate,,£70 odd pounds is a lot to pay for the set when you only use one gasket, ah'll keep hunting around, surly th'll be some place somewhere that sells gaskets seperate,,cheers,,and all the best and thanks.. |

Title: Re: cylinder gasket Post by Jack_650 on 02/09/09 at 08:47:10 I don't like to brag (or preach), but the first thing I did when I got my 650 used was to order a head gasket from Suzuki. I knew from reading this forum that there's quite a few things you can't fake from other parts if need be for the short term, but head gaskets didn't seem to be one of them. I've put over 15k miles on it since then and the gasket is still pressed between the pages of my Clymers out in the garage. My insurance policy against the day I need to change it. Plan ahead so you can shop around for the best price. I also have a stock of oil filters, an extra set of front brake pads and even a used drive belt. These are all things that we know will need replacing or be hard and time consuming to get if/when they are needed. When a good price for expendables comes along I try to take advantage of the opportunity that knocks. I'm curious as to what you do to go through head gaskets like that. These seem to be pretty forgiving bikes. Jack |

Title: Re: cylinder gasket Post by kennycreed on 02/09/09 at 11:40:25 bike number 1. leaking head gasket and oil plug,then head off again for new valves and seals,,bike number two, stripped cylinder head bolt,head off to helicoil cylinder, I seem to have all the fun, if only it was a bit warmer. I will try and post some pictures once I get onto page 3 or 4 in the COMPUTER FOR ANTIQUATED LEARNERS MANUAL I'm at the moment struggling with page 2 :( :( :-[ :-[ |
