Title: Inner heat shield for exhaust
Post by diamond jim on 02/02/09 at 22:08:27

This is the post I mentioned on the other thread.  It's a thermal pic posted by verslagen1:

When I converted to the supertrapp, this is where my brake cable cover started melting.

I figured I'd have the same issues with my new exhaust.  To remedy this I made a heat shield to help reflect some of the heat away from that part of the bike.  I just wish I had a thermal camera to see how well it works.

You can't really tell from the pic but it's mounted halfway between the pipe and the frame, motor and rear brake cable.  It's got a slight concave shape and follows the contour of the swingarm and oil sight glass.  I used phillips head screws but I'm gonna change them out to bolts so it matches the engine better.

Picture was borrowed.

I wrapped my cable with copper tape.

I've lond wondered about the sensibility of wrapping the exhaust pipe around the oil filter.  The last chance for cooling before heading up to the head.
