Hi Kenny,

Please describe the location of the bolt or post a pic or a diagram(preferred).  Then, we'll be able to give you an accurate answer.

Cheers!

Hi Digger I don't know how to send pictures, but the bolt is number L130 the one on the right hand side of the cover, on the after side between the cam shaft, and the bolt on the side of the head that holds the cam chain tensioner. The alloy thread where it screws down into the cylinder is stripped. There is an oil passage to the head up the side of this bolt so I don't want to restrict it by just tapping for a larger bolt so helicoil seems to be the best way but I am not sure  of the size of Helicoil kit to get for this thread, I think it is M8 X 1.25??? I was hoping that someone on the forum could either confirm this or advise me as to the proper helicoil thread size..all the best to you and yours,,,Kenny :-/

Hi Kenny,

I believe that is a 6mm bolt.  I'm not sure of the pitch, but my money would be on 1.0.

Good luck!

Thanks all for coming back to me I have the heads of both of my LS's off,   one for the stripped thread on the cylinder which I am waiting now for the 6mx1.0 helicoil kit to arrive. (should have it in a couple of days). and the other is waiting for two new exhaust valves to come from Germany, it was smoking a bit when starting up after being on the side stand for a while , the seals were worn on the valves, so while iI had the head off thought I would put new valves in to be sure, just to get them right for the coming summer. which  going by the last week or so with the snow and howling gales seems to be a long way away yet...all the best to you all and THANKS!!
