Title: Adding battery water
Post by Bear on 01/08/09 at 21:10:28

I took my battery out for the winter trickle charge last week.  Looks like it could be topped off with water.  Any suggestions on what to use to get  little spritz of distilled water into those tiny battery holes?  My significant other sugguested a baby snot sucker bulb.  A 50cc syringe would be nice if anybody would sell me one.  Must be a better way.

I got it from J.C. Whitney, but I don't think they sell it anymore.

Here is another source:

I used a 3 CC syringe, till I got the Big Crank, now, No Mo Wattah! Kinda small, 3CCs, but the battery isnt too big. If it was a battery for a Biggo Car, then the thing holds a lot, but these? Naaaah,Just about Any syringe will do it.

Go to a vet supply store and pick up a syringe. That's where I got mine to refill my battery.

great idea. Now how long do I charge my battery for? I have a battery booster and charger and I did not charge my batter last month as I did not winter prep it until the end of november.

I have one of those syringes that is used for injecting stuff into your Thanksgiving Turkey...  Just wash out all the hot sauce first...

Yonuh's idea is the ticket. I picked up a small plastic syringe from my vet. It's used for giving medication orally to small animals. Use distilled water that you can buy at the grocery store. To test the battery I picked up a small battery tester from Walmart that I found in the sporting goods department (boats). It indicates battery condition via led lights. Cheap and effective. I have a trickle charger that I put on the battery once a month for about 24 hours. Keeps it topped up just perfect.

honestly when i did it a few days ago i just used a straw and put my finger on the top of it to trap the water. if it doesnt need much water it doesnt take long at all and saves you a few dollars

Thanks for all the suggestions.  Went to the local feed store and got a 35cc syringe and the biggest needle they had.  Didn't use the needle, the snout on the syringe was long enough without it.  Perfect size, worked great.

That syringe at the feed store set me back $1.09.  Can't get much cheaper than that.  Big needle I didn't use was 35 cents.
