Title: brake rubbing
Post by Bobbert on 12/19/08 at 15:28:24

It seems that my front brake is rubbing on the pad... above 10 mph I get this scraping noise from the front wheel that correlates with speed. Whats the remedy?

Cjeck the rotor, make sure its not warped. If not, then does the rubbing stop ? Try riding a ways & dont use the front to stop, listen to it at low speeds. Does the sound get loud & quiet, as if the rotor is warpwed? Does it pulse the brake lever or feel like its grabbing in one spot? If thats all good, then clean & lube the pins the calliper slides on.
You can gently pry the pads away from the rotor & grab the brake calliper body & move it back & forth.Look at the opins & add some light lube,  That should loosen it up, Then Pump the brake pads back onto the rotor.

*** Keet the oil off the rotor***

slight rub is normal....if it's excessive, actually slowing the bike, the caliper pistons are sticking and need R and R, and cleaning...

13 year old bike?  other checks including the above posts
the pads have wear indicators,a slot in the center on the short axis..ck how much "meat" you have left(ie how old are the pads?)caliper tight??
hows your brake fluid level if its down and youve had no leaks, time for new pads..
ck your bearings, front wheel up off ground, any side to side play..
rim true, tire balanced,spokes tight...
tell us what you find..

Im away from the bike, but I just replaced the pads and the front tire a month ago and that's when it started.  The rubbing sound is only on a certain part of the rotor.  My best guess is that the rim is slightly out of alignment from when the stealership installed it.

check the spacers, are they the same size?
reverse and see if it's better.

what brand of pads?

and you may need to brake them in a bit to get rid of all the noise.

get 'em hot by braking lightly for a long time.  or a lot of short hard stops.

Have you practised your panic stops lately?  something I always do with new pads to brake them in.

my ebc pads took about 100 miles to "wear in" rode around town w/slight pressure on front brake lever,

no squeeks like oem pads..
dealer may of not got the caliper pistons all the way recessed during new intsall..worse case you may have to bleed the line
