Title: those of u with ape hangers
Post by blacksheep23 on 12/16/08 at 18:20:45

I finally got it installed.A total of 17" with 4 inch risers and 13 inch ape.My question is when I ride it,the risers kinda rock back and forth. Is that normal?I was afraid to go past 50 mph because I thought that whole thing gonna come apart and me ended up in a wreck.

One more thing..When it rolls foward,I saw some oil coming from the right risers? Is that something I have to worry abt?

thanks!

I don't have apes, but my risers kinda rocked and moved, untill I realised that you can't really strip the tread on those bolts :-) Whole triple tree - risers connection sits on these round rubber inserts, really have to tighten hard to stop from moving, specially if rubber is worn or bent a bit. And apes, being loong and tall give it a long lever, so the move is easier to spot at grips. Tighten and tighten, untill you feel good. Unless you decided to totally lose the rubber... Than it gets interesting.

Oil from right riser?? You sure? Shouldn't be any around. Except for the front brake line. Check that thoroughly.

Oil from the riser or is it coming from the fork top nut which is where you fill the fork oil?????

More height = more leverage and there for more wiggling in the donuts. I'd say over 8-9 inch height with drag bar = trouble for the donuts. Spes are different ... may not put all the load into the donuts. But for drag bars 9 inch is the limit. However the stock buckhorn are close to that 9 inch and dont affect it much. I thing it has to do with the twist and what not in it actually lessens the load the bar will be under and increase the load on your body etc.
Cool.
