Title: No Elbow Grease Required
Post by bluesavage218 on 12/12/08 at 19:42:21

I went to Advanced Auto Parts today and bought aluminum stripper called Tal-Strip II ($8.95) in the spray can. I took off the oil filter covering, sprayed this stuff on there. I let it set for about 10 minutes, wiped it off, polished it with some Mother's and gave it a nice chrome-looking shine. I'm going to do the rest of the engine tomorrow hopefully and then at some point do the switch casings on the handle bars. Here are some before and after pictures.

Thanks for the tip Blue. Maybe that will be all I need to get off all of the silver stuff the PO sprayed all over the cases and cylinder.

My clear coat is not anymore & whats left iof it is coming off. This may be th answer, IF I can remember it when the day comes I actually decide to DO something about it. I am really thinking, tho, that this bike will eventually qualify as a rat.

Haha I did the exact same thing before I found this stuff. The finish should be fine as long as it is not exposed to extreme weather in my opinion. As long as you keep it cleaned and polished it should be alright.
