Hello all!

Just curious to see what handlebars and/or risers you have. Perhaps specs and whether you had to change cables as well.

I'm a bit of a handlebar and riser junkie! I have high rise; low rise; drag bars; wide or narrow bars; and a couple of sets of "Z-Bars." About the only thing I don't care for are Ape Hangers.  :)

But I suppose you would have liked to see bars actually on a Savage??? ...Okay...

Stock VulcanVN800 bars. Cables fit fine with no mods. I think they're 32 inches wide. I'm small so I needed lots of pullback and the extra leverage that wide bars provide to be comfortable on the highway.

That said, I'm thinking of going to some lower and narrower bars this winter, along the lines of some low vintage motocross bars. I'm doing less touring and more canyon riding nowadays on this bike.

Ten inch Harley mini-apes. No cable replacement just re-routed them before I put on the Girder front end, then I had to change to cable operated front brake because stock wheel with disk wouldn't fit on front end.

Stock risers with Biltwell Frisco bars. No mods other than drilling hole in bars for controls.

Hey Demin, that second pic. What is the name of those handle bars? I was looking at a pair at my local custom shop. Here they are called guidon. What are the dimensions of the handle bars, and did they require any mods?

the bars on Demin's second bike are the stock S40 bars.

Savageclay how tall are your bars ?

Title: Re: show me your handlebars. Please!
Post by savageclay on 12/08/08 at 18:11:58

I am pretty sure they are 16".  I will have to double check. The pic makes them look a little bigger because of the way they are turned.

I want to trade out my stock pull backs for some drag bars.  How wide are the bars on the newer models or how wide should I get them?  Also,  any opinions on how high to get risers, 4" or 6"?

You can get cable and hose reach with up to 40 wide and 10 inch height on a buckhorn equipped bike's cable set.
I can make some ... I am working on a few of em.
The S40 bars are a little narrow but they are tall enough for my liking. Anyway ... each person likes different stuff.
Cool.
Srinath.

I will but it will be this weekend. I am 5'7". Not very tall but with may seat as low as i can get it the bars sit perfect for me.

ok, I'm a little confused.  on the new s40 are the bars perfectly straight or do they come back some.  Also, what is the difference between drag bars that come back or are perfectly straight?  in relation to steering etc.

Title: Re: show me your handlebars. Please!
Post by srinath on 12/09/08 at 08:57:05

The s40 bars bend back ~12-15 degrees.

Perfectly straight bars ... I doubt any one has them. I can make off Stainless steel for ~$1 an inch. You can bend it a bit to your liking at any muffler shop ... you bend a little, want more, bend more ... etc etc ...

Drag bars now a days mean no rise ... they all have that bend ... pull back only, not rise and pull back.

In the 60's we used pipe ... nowadays ... we want retro look, but creature comforts of today.

Cool.
Srinath.

will 4" risers that say they are for a Harley Sportster 1" bar fit on the Savage with no modification.  They are the two separate piece design.  Tons of them on Ebay.

Title: Re: show me your handlebars. Please!
Post by verslagen1 on 12/16/08 at 13:59:20

Technically, as you have stated "no mod", no.

But, the ones w/o a one piece cap, will with some modification.

The HD risers have a larger thru bolt than the suk.  So the tube that acts as a stop will have to be removed/replaced.

Title: Re: show me your handlebars. Please!
Post by oksavage on 12/16/08 at 14:10:03

is that an easy thing to do through your local hardware store?  or am I better off paying more for some that are suk specific?

4 inch harley risers that are separate pieces will fit with removal of the sleeve in the top triple donuts. They use 1/2 inch bolt, savage uses a 10mm with sleeve that is 12mm dia.
The bars of course you fit to your liking. The problem starts to get more acute when you get taller than that 4 inch. Wiggling and wobbling starts to increase as you get taller and/or wider.
Past that 4 inch height you'd start to need 1 piece top plates, then past 8 in you need delrin donuts etc ... but short and narrow is better ... almost anything will work.
BTW I can make the bar with SS to your specs. $1 per inch width. Broomstick, 10 deg bends ... 15 degree bends ... more ... no problem.
27-28 is as narrow as you can get to fit, and up to 36+ should work well. Heck even 40 will.
Cool.
Srinath.

This type does work with that sleeve removal I mentioned.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/HARLEY-SPRINGER-CHROME-6-SMOOTH-HANDLEBAR-RISERS_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trkparmsZ72Q3a543Q7c66Q3a2Q7c65Q3a12Q7c39Q3a1Q7c240Q3a1318Q7c301Q3a1Q7c293Q3a1Q7c294Q3a50QQ_trksidZp3286Q2ec0Q2em14QQhashZitem140270448955QQitemZ140270448955QQptZMotorcyclesQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories

But I dont like straight risers, and these usually are never made with a nice curve or bend in them.

This type need the modded top plate I am hard at work on ...

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Harley-Handlebar-Riser-and-Clamp-56122-77-56124-77_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trkparmsZ72Q3a543Q7c66Q3a2Q7c65Q3a12Q7c39Q3a1Q7c240Q3a1318Q7c301Q3a0Q7c293Q3a1Q7c294Q3a50QQ_trksidZp3286Q2ec0Q2em14QQhashZitem150316235912QQitemZ150316235912QQptZMotorcyclesQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories

The braced across design was needed as these will otherwise wiggle and sorta turn into an X when you turn. Of course taller or wider = worse. I am making a top plate that is spaced to fit the savage.
Cool.
Srinath.
