Title: Intruder 15'' rim on LS
Post by dasch on 12/03/08 at 09:06:21

Intruder has 170/80R15 stock, I believe. That means the rim is around 3.75'' - 4'' wide. Spoked.  I am thinking of getting an intruder rim, mount on existing hub and spokes of my savage and put this VIPER STRYKE AM63 on. 160/60R15. Any thoughts? First hand experiences?

140/90-15 is as big as you are going to get in there

Others have done it with a 165/80r15 which is a bit wider and taller, and it isn't as simple as it sounds when you get that big.  Slightly smaller seems to work a good bit better ....

Ask this guy, he seems to have been successful with a 155/80r15 sized tire just recently.

It's posible !  I just put a 155/80-15 GOODRICH  RADIAL TA   on the back of my savage.  No mods nessary...It seated at 76 psi  with half and half dishwashing soap, water.  I did bring it up to 50 psi to day befor and left it sit overnight to stretch a little.  If it were any bigger it would catch the bolt heads holding the crome things on the side of the fender.  There is about a half inch clearence on the belt side and three fourths on the high side,  there is almost an inch to the middle of the swing arm.  The only delima is "what about one side being raised white letter and the other side black letters?"
Though ya'll might use this information.

The mitchlin 145r-15 I replaced needed over a 100 psi (guage only goes to 100) to seat and latter developed a BUBBLE  in the side wall.>

A 150/90-15 is about 1/4" from the belt.Don't forget the fender, and all too.

To clear things up - I bobbed the bike. There's no rear seat, no chrome rails, no fender, there's nothing expect the belt and swingarm limitations. I am making a custom hugger fender, to match the tire i put on there :-)

Having said that, if 150/90 on original 2.75 rim clears the belt by 1/4'', 160/60 on 4'' rim should be right there... Hmmm, Or a little bit over that.

I have 140/90 right now and there's plenty of room left and right for a 160. At least it seems so.

155/80R15 goodrich on MMranch's bike seem to be a car tire.

Thanks all, post still open, if anybody has ever seen or install a wider (160 and above) rim and tire, please post.

and I found it! 15x4.00 rim, suzuki OEM, 36 spokes, $50. Shipping to Bosnia will be a ripoff, but... I'll post some pics after all said and done.
