Title: Belt snapped...
Post by johnnie on 12/02/08 at 02:52:03

Half an hour ago, my belt snapped :-/ What's next? Can it be repaired or do I need to buy a new belt? My bike only has about 20k miles on it, 8k of which I drove, the others were done by the driving school that owned it before me.
Is it normal for a belt to snap at 20k miles? I must admit, I'm more the sporty kind of driver, and I really enjoy feeling all the torques in that 652cc box ;)

Sorry Johnnie, you need a new belt. Start calling for prices, should be anywhere from $120-150. I bought a used belt off of ebay for $11 that I keep around just in case.

By the way, in the future, this type of post would be better off in the rubber side down forum. You'll get a lot more responses there.

Rubber cement and staples.  Just joking.

Well, it's one of the most necessary parts on the bike.

Where are the chain conversion guys?  I've heard that's pretty inexpensive.

If you're already minus a belt, then I would suggest a chain conversion.  I went to a 17/43, and absolutely love it.  Cost? $95, said and done.  As many others have said, "It's like a totally different bike".   There have been quite a few posts on it.
