Dear Newb, the tech section is for posting answers, not questions.
The reason for this is simple, answers are long term, questions are fleeting and repeated often.  Everyone feels their situation is unique.  And it's quite common to take something off and not remember how to put it back on.

part 40 is the fuel line, it attaches to the bottom of the petcock, not the vacuum on the back

part 41 runs back under the seat, close to the top of the breather box, it does not attach to anything on my 87

Under the nipple where part 41 attaches is the nipple for the vacuum line to the petcock, on the back side of the petcock.
