Title: Hard saddlebags Post by Savage = HD eater on 11/21/08 at 08:42:52 Has anyone installed hard saddlebags on the Savage? If so, what kind and what size is best? In a perfect world, I'm looking for detachable and lockable. Thanks!!! |

Title: Re: Hard saddlebags Post by Paladin. on 11/21/08 at 09:57:33 http://www.dslretorts.com/Paladin/images/leatherlyke1.jpg Start with the bad.... The LeatherLyke saddlebags cost $460, plus tax, shipping, etc.. The rest against the rear springs with a nylon rub strip. After 3.5 years of rubbing you can see the chrome worn: http://www.savageriders.com/paladin/images/Leatherlyke_shock_rub.jpg The good: You asked for detatchable and lockable: http://savage.andruschak.net/Paladin/LeatherLyke_off-on.AVI Less than 30 seconds to unlock remove, oops didn't mean to, install and lock. After four years of near daily use they still look and function very good. They are designed for the Savage, install with all parts supplied and without needing to do any re-engineering, including the relocation of the rear turn signals. They are spacious enough each side can take a five-liter box of wine, or two one-gallon jugs of milk, or a ten-pound bag of potatos, a rolled up leather motorcycle jacket, etc.. (It sure is nice to be able to shed the jacket when the day warms up.) |

Title: Re: Hard saddlebags Post by mornhm on 11/21/08 at 10:46:30 I don't know if GIVI or SHAD make cases for the Savage, but I can vouch that either one areworth the effort to install. |

Five Stars used to make a set of Savage specific holders for Givi cases but they were discontinued over 10 years ago. I agree Givi cases are best, I've three (2 x E36 + one older 34 liter case). They are completely waterproof. |

I bought mine from Mutazu.com, however mine are not detachable but they do have a lock to lock your belongings. These bags are ABS plastic, not bad for the $$$. |
Title: Re: Hard saddlebags Post by Toymaker on 11/23/08 at 03:21:16 I looked at the Matzu bags. I love em...had them put on my Christmas List. I like the idea that they can be locked. |

Title: Re: Hard saddlebags Post by bugsville on 11/23/08 at 06:41:01 Mine are not detachable either but they do lock, I got them off of Craiglist for around $80 - stock from a 1980 Yamaha gs1000 - plenty of room in these! Proof you can make anything work with a little persuasion and minor fabrication. Those Pelican cases look pretty good to me, the best thing about this craigslist score is if the bags bust on me, I can still use the brackets to attach another set of hard bags. http://www.bugsville.org/bugsmedia/98suzukisavage/P1020219-01.jpg |
