Title: Battery tender
Post by firetruckredbike on 11/10/08 at 10:56:39

Hi folks.  The Thumpster doesn't seem to want to start when the temp is below freezing (thankfully, I have a hill I can roll down and pop start him), so today I got a Deltran Battery Tender Jr.  I searched on this site as to how to install this fellow, but I'm still not clear, sorry.

It looks as though I need to take off the seat and the left side cover, attach these little rings to the postive and negative battery terminals, and leave this little fused "pigtail" so that it sticks out with the seat replaced - making it easy to hook up the trickle charger without the joy of removing the seat every time.

Have I got this right?  Where should the fused pigtail stick out?  Does anybody have a picture of their bike with this on it?

Many thanks.  I know I have been a pain in the butt lately with lots of questions but again I thank you for your help!

Amy (and remember to ride safe)

dont need to pull the saet to get the battery out dis connect neg first
left side as you sit on bike dont drop the screw!!
remove tool bow/battery cover and bracket and disconnect pos.hook up your battery tender pigtail adaptor..slide battery back in and figure out where you want the adaptor to be..i say right side cause kick stand is on left..leave slack for future battery removal, insure wires wont get pinched...when you reinstall your battery hook up bikes neg.last
i installed a fused power outlet(cig lighter)on the cross piece of the front of the swing arm very handy..

If you don't need access durring ride, mount the jack under the tool box cover.  All you need is a key to access and some what secure and weather proof.

I have my pigtail installed so the plug is reachable with your fingertips under the right side of the seat, the close quarters of the seat and frame hold the plug snugly out of sight. Install as said above and your good to go.. I took my seat off just to make things easier btw..

I hid mine under the toolbox cover...
Also watch that the battery connector nut doesn't slip out...it's under the square lead terminal.

Thanks everybody.  We did it, or rather my most wonderful husband did most of it.  We did take the seat off, and the pigtail is now tucked away under the right side of the seat.  I put it on the charger last night and the light is now solid green, and it is 24 F out and I have a full battery, unlike yesterday!

Have a safe (and warm) ride today,
Thanks again,
Amy
