I took my drive side panel off today and noticed It had a good sized groove worn in it and the sprocket had signs of wear,the only thing I noticed was that the three bolts / screws that hold the cover on are all different leagths,I am assuming I must have put them back in the wrong holes the last time I had it off,my question, A is that the cause of the churps? and B can any one say what bolt goes in what hole?

A no, if by wear you mean the teeth are polished, that's normal.
But do check the torque on the nut. It can work back and forth and eventually shear the teeth off.
B the bolts stick out the same when put in the holes and not threaded in.

for churps, read up on belt alignment.

Hey Mick!

Does your chirping increasing in frequency or loudness as you accelerate? I have a chirping sound coming from my bike as well and just figured it was from fixing the speedo rattle that I now hear other sounds. Maybe mine is the belt as well.

Chirping when you accelerate is the belt. A qiuck fix is bees wax on the edges of the belt. The best fix is to realign the belt. My belt is not showing any abnormal wear so I have stayed with the bees wax. I will probably do a realign when I do my spring maintenace.

The chirping noise is coming from the belt - it is touching the the edge of one of the pulleys - most like the rear

This is not unusual for the Savage -

The solution is as simple as a bar of soap - rub it along the edges of the belt until you hwave a generous coating of soap on the belt. It will not hurt the belt andyou wll fin that your chirping noise will disappear.

Agree with V, you need to do an alignment. It's really about testing and patience. Loosen the axle nut, and get to work on the adjusters. Start by loosening them 1/2 to 1 full turn on both sides, then tighten your axle nut and go for a ride. Still chirping? Try again, maybe tighten or loosen. Keep going until you get it right. Took me under an hour to get rid of a chirp that was with me for a couple of months.

Yep, that is most definitely metal-on-metal wear. Mine was doing that a while back, I moved the bolt configuration around and got it to stop. When I put mine back together today, it was doing the same thing. I checked the parts fiche, and it looks like each one of those bolts are supposed to have a metal spacer. Only one of mine does. I will be ordering new ones.

That being said, I don't think that is causing your chirp. Mine just sounds like it is rubbing when the gear is rubbing, no chirp.
