Title: Weird feeling in the rear end
Post by ChrisSavage on 10/26/08 at 12:04:29

I had my bike out today and I had a weird feeling when braking lightly / medium application. I tried just using the front brake and I got the same feeling. Decelerating, turning, acceleration, all felt normal. It felt a little loose in the wind too though...

Every looked okay, couldn't find any loose parts or anything out of the ordinary....

The best way to put it is that anytime I used the rear break it felt like it was locked up. I made sure on three different stops-long stops too, not pounding on, and it almost had me convinced (feeling-wise) that I was locking it up with almost no application. But I wasn't. It felt almost the same though.

Heavy braking did solve the problem... or seemed to though.

Any ideas as to what it might be?

Also, an afterthought, the tire pressures were normal, if not a few psi high.

I really don't have any idea what it could be, frankly I am just posting to warn you that you will more than likely be getting a LOT of smart a$$ remarks because of your thread title.

But anyway, have you tried re-adjusting your rear brake, maybe loosing it up some?

My guess would be rear bearings are going out.

Rear end feels wobbly, but heavy braking tightens it up.

also how's your rear tire?  about worn out?

If that doesn't work it out, try a different girl friend.

I know the title is silly  ;D

I think part of my problem was about 15 hours on another bike a few weeks ago. It was a dual purpose and it really threw me off my game. I've only done about 300 miles since then so I think my problem was I'm just out of practice.  :P

It felt a lot better when I spent about ten minutes reacquainting myself with exactly how hard to push...

Now I'm being a smart-y'know!

But really, I think the problem was all in my head, or mostly. (Rear tire is about at half life, and I forgot I was on a 350 lb bike with regard to the wind...)
