Title: no air filter??
Post by PipJones on 10/23/08 at 15:27:08

took my bike apart because my neutral light went out and found out i didn't have an air filter. anyone know how well pantihose works for catching all the crap that an air filter would?

haha...is that was being used?

I am sure it's the same for a bike as a car....you don;t want to use anything but a filter. You need to collect as much crap without hurting air flow too much. Get yourself a air filter and you may want to clean the carb and valves

Just go with a cone filter... no air box and clean looks!

Hmmm... not sure.  I've never put pantyhose on anything and checked.  I've only taken them off of... uh... nevermind.  TMI.

You can go to KN directly as long as you measure the intake size and find the one you need... or you can do what I did... I went to Advanced Auto Parts and piked up a cheap circular air filter, glued some plastic on one end to close it and then rigged it up to put it on my intake. I like the way it looks and it only cost me about $5!

so if i were to get a k&n would that take the place of my intake hose from the airbox to the carb? or does the k&N go in the airbox?

I would just remove the airbox and clamp the KN onto the hose from the carb to where ther airbox used to be. That way it will allow it to breath more and give you a bit of a open area to (to me) make your bike look better!

Look at Oldfellers Homebuilt,, OHH but you need an original frame, anyway, IF I hadnt spent the $$$ for the K&N, I would do the OldFeller airfilter. I suspect its better than K&N at catching the crap & a big improvement over the stocker for flow.

just remember if you lose the filter box, you also lose the side covers, they bolt to it. also you be finding creative ways to move some of the wiring as it connects to the airbix as well.
