Title: timing Post by kennycreed on 10/22/08 at 09:08:12 hi would the engine run if the valves were timed wrong. Say on the induction instead of the compression |
Title: Re: timing Post by PipJones on 10/22/08 at 09:46:16 it would make sense that it would, single piston, intake and exhaust strokes are the exact same.... up and down. but i could be wrong, depends on if the spark plug fires every stroke or every other stroke. but i would assume it would since it is carbureted instead of fuel injected. |

:-? Are you saying that the intake valve open on the compression stroke? If so, no. Don't think it would run. And I don't think it would rotate for very long either. As the valves would hit the piston. |
Title: Re: timing Post by srinath on 10/22/08 at 12:40:20 Cam chain off by 1 tooth and it may not run at all, and if it did run it will be horrible. Off by 2 ... nope it wont run. Cool. Srinath. |
Title: Re: timing Post by kennycreed on 10/22/08 at 13:02:09 thanks all for that, thats not what it is as she runs for about ten seconds and wont take any throttle.. Cant be the carb, put carb from other bike on, just same, put what I thought was my duff carb on other bike and it ran perfect, could the cd unit(brain box) be faulty even if there is a good spark |
Title: Re: timing Post by srinath on 10/22/08 at 13:27:32 OH, OK, does it stall after 10 seconds. Then what does it do. Wont start back up again ? Prolly not black box, maybe the crank trigger. left side next to the stator. Cool. Srinath. |
Title: Re: timing Post by kennycreed on 10/22/08 at 13:55:28 hi srinath she just wont fire again until i strip the tank off and clean the plug, what is the crank trigger and what does it do,,is it inside the casing, what is it?, i am willing to try anything cheers K |
Title: Re: timing Post by verslagen1 on 10/22/08 at 17:17:59 I suppose he's talking about the sensor for timing the spark. So you got 2 bikes exactly the same? Which carbs and same issue. Almost elim's a carb problem. tell us how you start it, maybe something there. |
Title: Re: timing Post by kennycreed on 10/23/08 at 01:33:28 :(Tank tap on reserve,(tank half full) choke about half way out, igniton on, press start, once she fires I tried everything to keep her running,,choke in,,out.halfway, :-[no choke, different settings on throttle, blipping it ,trying it at all settings,,It can't be the carb because it works fine on the other bike, could the bike run if the sensor was lose or had shifted,,where is it is it inside the left hand crankcase cover and is it a straight forward job, :'( :'( :'( :'(thank you... |
Title: Re: timing Post by verslagen1 on 10/23/08 at 11:12:26 does it take a long time to start or right away? check you exhaust for blockage. check the fuel flow to the carb, open bottom drain, which to prime, put cup/bowl/pan under carb, how fast does it flow? if you got two common bikes swap out the coil. check your ground too |
