Title: crappity smacking Bang
Post by savagesteve on 10/21/08 at 19:50:19

I went for a ride last weekend on my savage and ten minutes down the road the engine started to rattle then a big bang.
Ive stripped it down and found a broken valve had gone through the piston, stuffed the head and stuffed the cylinder.

The parts needed to fix it are a cylinder head, cylinder, piston, rings,  cam, exhaust rocker, timing chain, gudgeon pin circlips and gaskets which comes to $2700
for an 1986 model that cost $3000 and has a trade in value of $1000, it isnt going to be fixed.

so if theres anyone in australia who wants to buy it for parts, or spend the money to fix the engine, im in brisbane, come and get it.

At this point, a used engine might be good...but the frieght to OZ is expensive.  But if you want, now is the time to go from the 4 speed to the 5 speed...

Cheers

This is the third fatal valve drop in a few months. 88pagan, Drums1, and now Savagesteve.

You three need to speak with each other and compare notes. Maybe it can be figured out what is causing the valve drops.

Mine was caused by the repair shop putting the oil filter in backwards and the oil pump drive gear on backwards, when the clutch was done. I got it back yesterday. The head is trashed--cam journals are toast. He got a used engine somewhere and fixed it all up at no charge to me. Too bad it took him 3 months.

at no cost to me....

Yea, it's rare that an assault victim gets a bill..

Wow, I just looked at that & realized how wrong it is.
IRS,& cops beat people up & then charge them with assault, the entire political system assaults our senses & sanity, then we pay for it all, Banker robbery/bailout, the list goes on.

Sorry you got beat out of a riding season. But, you could just tell yourself that IF the bake had been running, some Idiot would have run over you & you woulda gotten hurt. Rationalize, man, rationalize!
Or is that sour grapes? owell, whatever makes you feel better about it. I hope you get great service outta the bike. So, NOW they know how to do an oil change,, you taking it back there?

I would have rather been riding but, no sour grapes. I'm just glad to get it back in 1 piece. And NO, it will never go there again. Not EVEN for a spark plug.
