Can't find the thread, but I recall that someone was concerned about the degree of lean when the Savage is on it's sidestand. The one shot for today's ride I parked where the dirt was sloping up from the road, making the bike lean a bit further onto it's sidestand than normal:

Amazing how far it'll lean and NOT fall over.

Cool pic Paladin. That's good to know. I've never had cause ot doubt the side stand, but I have wondered a time or two just how far is too far. Thanks.

If in doubt, get it a tug.

Of course there's always soft ground to watch out for.

Turn the handle bars the other way and I think you may be in trouble.

Well, I've had my front tire come completely off the ground when I leaned the bike on it's side stand. Perhaps the shoulder high pile of heavy trip and camping gear on the back fender had something to do with that. Having side bags down low didn't seem to help much either. Made it a bit harder at stop signs too to keep it vertical. On the road though things were fine for normal riding at highway speed.

When I ride the bike loaded I always carry a short piece of 2"X4" on top of the load. Then when I have to dismount I just drop it to put the stand foot on. The inch and a half extra keeps the center of gravity more over the wheels and makes the bike stable.

this came up the other day, i hope it helps.

i've found that if i move the handlebars to the far left before i place it on the side stand it's much more stable,, in fact.

funny 4 days after I got mine, SOMEONE placed a bag of garbage next to it. I was like "what the hell" and went to move it. I reached over the bike, grabbed it, gave it yank to pic it up and WHAMMM knocked it right over. needless to say there was damage and I was PO'ed. :o

Sluggo shows the stand is strong. But, tie his feet to the seat, tie him vertical to a 2"X"4 AND then lean the stiff structure to the left twenty degrees or so and you'll see some "rubber side up."

Even I didn't have the nerve to stack water and other heavies on top of the loaded bike. Bravo.
